CHI calls The Rev. Martha G. Metzler to be our Priest-in-Charge
The Rev. Martha G. Metzler, known as "Rev. Martie" or simply
"Martie," recently completed a 5-year commitment as the Associate
Rector for Pastoral Care and New Member Ministry at St. James'
Church, Manhattan. A graduate of Bexley Hall Seminary, she was
ordained in the Diocese of Central New York in 1984 and served in a
variety of parish, Cathedral and hospital chaplaincy ministries until
relocating to the metro-area in 2005.
She was drawn to Holy Innocents because it is a diverse, inclusive
parish seeking "to follow the teachings of Christ in our lives and our
outreach to the community" She looks forward to working
collaboratively with parish leaders to set the goals for our ministry
together.
Martie and her husband, the Rev. Paul A. Metzler, Director of
Community and Program Services for the Visiting Nurse Service
of NY Hospice Care, have two young adult children. Ben is employed
at Barclay's Capital in NYC and Liz is teaching English in Mexico until
the summer. Martie and her husband will move into the rectory in
mid-April to get settled before her first celebration of the Holy
Eucharist at CHI on May 2nd.
