Mountain Musings July 2011
Dear Friends, We’re officially in summer, now, the solstice and last day of school behind us, and warm sunny days to lure us away for rest and recreation. I hope we all get some of that in the next few weeks; I will take a vacation myself (see calendar). Meanwhile, lot is still happening on the mountain and we need you to help!

1. Fundraising Report
First, most of you have heard that we had the biggest and most profitable of our 3 annual wine tastings and auctions, netting $2,200 for mission and ministry. Hurray! An Oktoberfest and Beer Tasting is on the docket for October, and we hope everyone can join in the fun, with friends, of course!
2. French Drains to be installed: MOVING PARTY July 19th 6pm
No more wet vacuuming before events! We are drying out our basement. But we need everyone’s help.
THIS WEEK, Wed. July 13 BRING BOXES TO CHURCH FOR PACKING
TUESDAY JULY 19TH AT 6 PM- HELP US MOVE. We will begin to move everything out of the kitchen, classrooms, and hospitality room. You can help even if you can’t do heavy lifting. You can order the pizza, and hand it out, pack toys or books, tape and label boxes, or if you can do heavy lifting, move furniture.
From there, contractors will take over. The asbestos floors and bottom half of the paneling will be removed, and then the drains can be installed by digging a trench all around the inside of the walls. The completion will involve rebuilding walls, and reinstalling kitchen appliances, cabinets and furnishings in all the rooms. The MOVING BACK PARTY WILL BE FRIDAY AUGUST 12TH (See the sign up sheets in the Undercroft for dates we will need help, and dates the undercroft will be out of commission.)
By the end of the summer, the Undercroft will look almost the way it always has; that is, the way it has always looked on a dry day, even if it is wet outside. That will be a welcome improvement!
3. Music notes from Anne; HELP WANTED
First of all, it has been an honor for me to play your wonderful organ, and to work with the Choir and bells, and to begin to know many of you this year. Thank you so much. I love the word "recreation" ---to re-create, to make anew, to adjust and improve. Summer is an ideal time to evaluate and possibly alter things in our lives. Please think about this as you read the next few words.
HELP WANTED FOR YOUR FRIENDS IN HOLY INNOCENTS CHOIR
Our loyal, devoted choir folks have led our hymns and service music (Gloria, etc) and presented anthems or new hymns at the Offertory. They would welcome your voice to join with theirs. Did you know that the more you sing, the better you sound? Singing is physical, and practice really helps. We rehearse at 9:15 on Sundays. Please think about joining us in the fall. Anne
4. Summer Liturgy 9:30
We have begun our simplified summer liturgy, beginning at 9:30 to take advantage of the cooler mornings. Thanks to great weather, we haven’t had to evacuate the church which was oven-like last summer, but if it gets too hot we will find a cooler alternative. Just look for a sign at the door.
We have some good friends lined up to be here to preach, celebrate, and make music while I take vacation, and Anne has a knee replacement .

What do You Think? Bishop’s Blog on marriage equality
Our brothers and sisters in New York are celebrating a new law which enables all couples to share the rights and benefits of marriage. Read what our bishop has to say. If you would like to talk about this, let me know. http://forgatesofhope.blogspot.com/2011/06/marriage-equality-in-new-york.html
6. Have a great summer. See you at 9:30 on Sundays when you are in town!
